Matthew DePaz (’13) Elected Partner at Shook, Hardy & Bacon

Matthew DePaz (’13) was elected partner at Shook, Hardy & Bacon in Kansas City, MO, where he focuses on product liability litigation for the pharmaceutical and medical device industry.

Matt’s practice focuses on the defense of companies in complex product liability and class action litigation. He has represented numerous product manufacturers in federal and state jurisdictions, including multidistrict litigation and coordinated state court proceedings. Matt’s work includes taking and defending depositions, drafting motions and briefs, and preparing expert and company witnesses for depositions and trial testimony.

Matt has also gained significant experience working with and representing companies in the health care industry. Matt seconded to a Fortune 500 pharmaceutical company to assist with ongoing litigation. Before joining Shook, he also interned at Walgreens where he assisted in-house counsel on various state and federal regulatory matters. And before law school, Matt interned for Shire where he helped train pharmaceutical sales professionals and compose a marketing campaign.

In addition to his practice, Matt actively participates in local and national bar associations. Most recently, he was elected to serve a two-year term as one of Missouri’s delegates to the ABA’s House of Delegates. In 2019, Matt co-chaired the Heartland Diversity Job Fair for KCMBA. In 2018, he was elected to Missouri Bar Young Lawyer’s Section Council, where he has focused on helping new lawyers entering the profession.
