Second-year law students Emma Loney and Sean Lehning were the winners of the 40th Annual Lenny B. Mandell Moot Court Competition held on Saturday, April 2, 2022.

“The Mandell Moot Court Competition provides a wonderful opportunity for students to continue to build skills in advocacy, legal research and legal analysis,” said Moot Court Faculty Advisor Professor Sandra Kupelian. “Those skills are not only beneficial to future appellate attorneys, but to all attorneys. The Moot Court Society (MCS) did a wonderful job pulling this event together. I couldn’t be prouder of MCS, our finalists, and all the participants.”

The final round of the arguments was presided over by Justice Susan Hutchinson, Second District Appellate Court; Judge Dwayne Gab, Sangamon County; and Josette Skelnik, Office of the State Appellate Defender.

The Moot Court Society would like to give a special thanks to all of the faculty, alumni, and friends of the law school that served as judges in the preliminary rounds.

The Moot Court Society organizes and runs the competition to further the advancement of appellate advocacy. The Mandell Moot Court Competition is open to second-year students and gives them an opportunity to draft briefs and argue cases in a simulated appellate court before panels of moot court judges.
