Kirkwood (’05) Becomes Senior Assistant City Attorney in Atlanta

Michael D. Kirkwood is as a Senior Assistant City Attorney in the City of Atlanta (“COA”) Department of Law Litigation Practice Group. He practices employment law and provides advice and counsel to the COA Department of Human Resources regarding local, state and federal regulations, personnel, employee, policy and administrative matters.

Before working for the COA, Michael worked for the city of Washington, D.C. In his most recent role, he served as the General Counsel for the D.C. Office on Aging; and he served as an Assistant General Counsel within the D.C. Department of Public Works and as an Associate Attorney in the D.C. Office of Human Rights. He advised these city agencies on complex matters including labor and employment, privacy, ethics and open records laws and general litigation.

Prior to his government service, Michael worked for a boutique, D.C.-based employment law firm where he represented hourly workers, government employees, mid-level professionals, and executives in matters involving wage and hour claims, unfair treatment under federal and local wage and hour laws, and federal and local anti-discrimination laws.
