Angelo Kappas (’06) Appointed Associate Judge

Angelo J. Kappas (’06) was appointed to Associate Judge for the 18th Judicial Circuit and will be sworn in on March 2, 2020.

Angelo is currently a partner at Gordon & Rees LLP where he focuses his practice on the defense of Fortune 500 clients in all areas ranging from products liability to employment disputes to general and professional liability claims.  Angelo is an accomplished attorney who has tried many cases to verdict, handled numerous arbitrations and settlements, and successfully handled appeals in the Seventh Circuit and Illinois Supreme Court.  His philosophy to representing clients is to be available at all times for any situation.  He prides himself in being responsive to client’s needs on a variety of issues, especially in emergency situations.  Prior to practicing law, Angelo focused on sales and customer service, which has helped hone his ability to successfully communicate, represent, and problem-solve with clients in the legal arena.  His ability to put a client’s needs first and view all legal problems as a means to a solution is unparalleled.

He has also represented clients in general civil litigation, director and officer liability, pharmaceutical malpractice, drug and medical device claims , transportation law matters, vehicular accidents, toxic tort matters, property damage claims, alleged product defect suits, contractual disputes, employment disputes, labor law matters, consumer credit disputes, and commercial litigation.  He has extensive experience in both state and federal courts.  Angelo has first-chaired over 60 cases to verdict with favorable outcomes on behalf of his clients throughout the Chicagoland area, including Cook, DuPage, Lake, and Will Counties.  In addition to litigation, he has experience in arbitrating and mediating cases.

Angelo also has extensive experience in defending nationwide and state class claims arising under consumer protection statutes, including the TCPA (Telephone Consumer Protection Act), FDCPA (Fair Debt Collection Practices Act), and FCRA (Fair Credit Reporting Act), alleging multi-million dollar exposure against corporate clients.  Additionally, he has defended class action claims involving privacy and data breaches.  His experience has given him the ability to provide a wide range of litigation services to his clients from director and officer liability to professional malpractice to employment law matters to commercial litigation encompassing consumer protection claims, such as class claims involving data breaches and TCPA violations.
