Professor Meredith Stange was selected to be an Editor for the Journal of Legal Writing Institute (JLWI). Established in 1988, Legal Writing: The Journal of the Legal Writing Institute showcases the developing discipline of legal writing. According to the JLWI, the Journal’s mission is to provide a forum for the publication of scholarly articles about the theory, substance, and pedagogy of legal writing. Unlike most law reviews, which are student-edited, the Journal is peer-reviewed. The Editorial Board is composed of faculty from law schools across the country and includes some of the leading scholars and academics in the field of legal writing.
Professor Stange is the director of the NIU Law Legal Writing Program. She teaches Legal Writing I and II, Legal Methods, Legal Analysis: Skills and Strategies, Writing for Practice, and Health Law. She is also a coordinator for the first-year Academic Success Program. Prior to coming to the NIU College of Law, Professor Stange was a litigation associate with Hinshaw & Culbertson in Rockford, Illinois, practicing in the area of medical malpractice and insurance defense. Her practice also included corporate health care issues, with an emphasis on the privacy regulations to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA).
