Heidi Frostestad Named Associate Dean at NIU Law

Law Library Director Professor Heidi Frostestad KuehlProfessor Heidi Frostestad has been named the new Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.  Currently, Associate Dean Frostestad is the Director of the David C. Shapiro Memorial Law Library at the NIU College of Law. She has held this position since 2014 and will continue to do so. In addition to her role at the library, she has been an active member of the Chicagoland Junior Scholars Conference committee, a faculty advisor for the Jessup International Moot Court team, and a mentor for incoming law students.  

Associate Dean Frostestad has extensive experience in foreign, comparative, and international law, international business transactions, law and technology, as well as basic and advanced legal research. She has chaired several committees, including faculty development, faculty promotion of scholarship and U.S. News and World Report, budget, and law library renovation. 

Before joining NIU College of Law, Associate Dean Frostestad held positions at Northwestern University School of Law’s Pritzker Legal Research Center in Chicago and Marquette University Law School in Milwaukee as a law librarian and adjunct professor. She also taught international legal research at the John Marshall Law School’s Center for International Law. Additionally, Associate Dean Frostestad served as the Circuit Librarian and a Court Unit Executive at the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit from 2021-2022. 

Furthermore, she is an active member of several organizations, including the American Association of Law Schools, the American Bar Association as a site visit team member for several law school accreditation visits, the American Society of International Law, the Mid-America Association of Law Libraries, Chicago Association of Law Libraries, and federal judiciary continuing education seminars and civics education. 

Associate Dean Frostestad earned her J.D. from Valparaiso University School of Law, M.A. in Library and Information Science from the University of Iowa, and B.A. in Music Performance and English from Luther College.
